Designation and Responsibilities:
I am an Associate Data Scientist at Bayut & dubizzle. I joined as an intern last year and was able to secure a permanent role as a Data Scientist.
My day-to-day tasks involve building machine learning models, exploring AI applications in the business, cleaning and processing data in order to feed it to ML or DL models, achieve KPIs, handle stakeholders, and deploy production level ML applications.

What are your motivations for enrolling in this program at ESDST?
As I am an Associate Data Scientist currently looking to move into a managerial position later on in my career, I was exploring MBA opportunities online. This is when I saw ESDST’s MBA with specialization in Data Science and Machine Learning which was very unique compared to other MBA’s offered by other schools/universities.
Furthermore, due to the travel restrictions (pandemic) at that time as well as my job situation (internship), an online MBA specialized in my field of interest was perfect. The costs involved was also very reasonable and I was able to secure a scholarship as well. Hence, I decided to choose ESDST!
With all the negativity and sorrow surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic which impacted the world and especially my close family, I was able to be strong mentally and continued to work hard. I was in my final year at University which was moved online due to the lockdowns. With continued tenacity and determination, I was able to secure a first class honours degree in Computer Science specializing in Data Science as well as complete my dissertation which utilizes ML to help the world by building a model which detects COVID-19 using X-rays and CT scans. Furthermore, I was also awarded the University Topper prize.
On the side, besides my day-to-day work, I continue to invest my time in startups and ideas which may bring a positive change to the world. One of the startups I am working on is currently a registered company in Dubai and is in the ideation and MVP development phase. We hope to release the product by early 2023 if all goes well in the development phase!
I am very passionate about Data Science. I believe we can utilize the power of data to find solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. Paired with the untapped potential of AI and Machine Learning, we can make the data speak for its own and utilize the insights gained to craft creative solutions which can make our lives easier and more fulfilling.
From my end, I have always been facinated by Environmental Data Science and have explored applications of the same. I have proposed solutions where AI can be used to identify effective solutions in Agriculture, Urban Planning, and Global Warming respectively. My presentation was awarded first place in the GreenIT Global Challenge 2020 organized by the British Computer Society.
I believe by completing this course I will be equipped with all the necessary skills and tools required to be a competent manager at my current organization in the near future. I hope to use and apply all the knowledge I have gained from each module in this course in my current work place and manage my team, projects, and startups. Furthermore, I also hope to expand on my Data Science Technical and Business skills by completing the relevant modules which focus on Data Visualization and Machine Learning.
